Kindle Nation gave Beyond the Comfort Zone a fantastic review which sent BTCZ storming up the Amazon Charts

"A stunning memoir...We've had a spate of memoirs the past few years by performers with little story to tell and even less skill for storytelling, but James M. Turner is a glorious exception. He engaged me fully with the story of his ascent as a musician, but this book was transformed from a good read to a can't-put-down with the compelling tale of the deeds and dangers involved in his struggles for human decency in the jungle of southeast Asia. Along the way he reveals a novelist's touch for narrative and dialogue. It's not only a wonderful story of one man's times, but better yet, of his struggle to redeem those times"

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat book

"I am an avid and quite varied reader and I couldn't wait to get my hands on what a friend described as "an amazing story". I wasn't let down. This is a great book written absolutely magnificently. It reads like a work of believable fiction and I had to keep reminding myself that it was a true story. On the whole I read far more fiction than biography, because I find most `real' stories less exciting and absorbing. If more factual writing was like this, that might change. I think the author really has a way with words and has created some beautiful imagery for the reader. I have no base of reference as I have never visited Thailand. However, I got so caught up in picturing the places that were described and the descriptions of the people that I could have been following characters in a good novel rather than real people. I was gripped to the end and disappointed when it finished. Roll on a sequel!"

5.0 out of 5 starsA very moving book

"Not a book I would ordinarily read, but I am a huge Take That fan and knew the author had featured in the video A Million Love Songs. Once I got into BEYOND THE COMFORT ZONE, however, I loved it and could not put it down. It was an emotional roller coster throughout and I did not know what was coming next. There are a lot of sad parts, though, and I had to get the tissues out, but this is balanced out by some very funny bits and one liners. Some of the descriptions were incredibly beautiful and poetic, and made me feel I was there. The best thing about BEYOND THE COMFORT ZONE is that it highlighted the need for better child protection throughout the world, a subject thats too often swept under the carpet. A great all rounder, you wont be disappointed"

5.0 out of 5 starsFive stars all the way!!

"In Beyond The Comfort Zone, the author Jim Turner sets out to right a troubled upbringing, learns to play the saxophone and subsequently ends up touring the world with the pop group Bros (this at a time when they were truly huge), and other notable acts, such as Lisa Stansfield. "This is my life, I thought, this is how it's going to be forever", he says after playing to 70,000 people at Wembley Stadium. It seems odd then that there is a massive jump to what comes next -- one-sixth into the book he abandons the music industry and ends up attempting to infiltrate and put a stop to child trafficking in the jungles of S.E. Asia. It seems odd, but it isn't. Without wishing to give the story away, I will just say that this is a superbly crafted book and awesome memoir that will take your nerves right to the wire. Five stars all the way."

5.0 out of 5 starsAn amazing read!

James M. Turner's book, Beyond The Comfort Zone, tells Mr. Turner's extraordinary story of going to great lengths (at great personal risk) in Thailand and Burma (now Myanmar) to try to help stop the illegal selling of Burmese children into the sex trade in Thailand. Mr. Turner's courage and determination are only eclipsed by his uncanny writing ability. I could not put the book down, and neither will you. You'll read it in 24 hours because you won't be able to put it down either. If you like non-fiction that reads like a novel, this is the book for you. It will both thrill and scare you. Great summer beach read, by the way. Order yours right now. You won't be sorry!!!

Review of Beyond the Comfort Zone on All4women.co.za

In his autobiography, Beyond The Comfort Zone, James M Turner writes about his journey from being one of the highest paid session musicians in the UK to surviving in The Golden Triangle of South East Asia.

As a musician he toured with ‘Bros’ and ‘Take That’ and lived the rock n roll lifestyle but after a painful divorce he decided to take time out and moved to Thailand.

While living in Chang Mai and studying Thai he met up with an ex-Israeli, Franco, and together they worked to bust-up an illegal Child Trafficking ring working across the Burmese/ Thai borders.

Exceptional journey

His exceptional journey is the making of a Hollywood blockbuster and at times I had to remind myself that it’s a true story.

For an untrained novelist, the book is really well written and Turner’s dialogue leaps off the page.

His very British sense of humour had me in stitches.  He is amazingly honest and does not shy away from his excesses and, at times, loutish behaviour.

His descriptions of places put me right in there with him among the Tuk-Tuks and street vendors.  Turner also loves food and he had my mouth watering for fish ball soup.

In short:  Shantaram for South East Asia

Recommend: Yes

Review of Beyond the Comfort Zone on Music.co.uk

"The chances are, that while the name James M Turner may not be familiar to you, his music may well be. As one of the UK’s top session musicians, he’s travelled the world, playing Saxophone in front of millions, for stars like Take That and Bros. Music was his career, and his passion, but at some point he decided to take some time out, and his life took an almighty, and potentially dangerous turn.

James M Turner became a man on a mission, a man who wanted to infiltrate the world of child trafficking, and capture those responsible for, what is in essence a tearful trade. He has now recorded all his experiences in a book, called ‘Beyond The Comfort Zone’, which tells his incredible story, from the stage, to the jungles of S.E Asia. I don’t want to give too much away, but I’ve read some sample chapters, and can promise this is one book that will grip you from start to finish. If you’re looking for a unique read, full of interest, intrigue, danger, and high emotion, then this is the book for you"
